Bro. Representative Adriano Espaillat
Brother Representative Adriano Espaillat is a Dominican Born politician who has been serving the state of New York since the late 90s. Bro. Rep. Espaillat was a member of the New York State Assembly 72nd district from 1997-2010, where he served as the Chair of the Black, Latino, and Asian Caucuses, and used his voice and power to speak for them. Bro. Rep. Espaillat was also vital in passing legislation against violent crimes and held big corporations accountable for their actions in New York City. In 2011, he ran for a state senate seat and won, and would remain in this role until 2016. Bro. Rep. Espaillat fought and passed laws against businesses taking advantage of immigrants and voted in favor of marriage equality. In 2016, he was finally able to win his campaign to be a House Representative. In doing so, he became only the third person to represent the 13th district in 72 years. With this election, he became the first Dominican-American to serve in the US House of Representatives. During his tenure, Bro. Rep. Espaillat has served as a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, the Committee on Education and Labor, and the Select Committee of Small Businesses. He is the Second Vice-Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. In these roles, Bro. Rep. Espaillat fights for the rights of African Americans and Latinos on a national level.
