Bro. Elario “Ed” Monteiro
Brother Elario “Ed” Monteiro After leaving the field of Asset Management, Bro. Monteiro is currently a Financial Analyst in the Finance and Budget Division of LAX in the Grants section, securing millions of dollars in grant funds for various economic development, infrastructure, clean energy technologies, and other capital programs. He was also a Financial Analyst at Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) since early 2006, handling various assignments in Financial Planning from designing cash flow models and monthly budget variances to evaluating contractor and service providers’ financial statements to assess the level of risk to LAWA for the Chief Financial Officer. Bro. Monteiro also submitted reports on debt service coverage to the Office of the Controller and provided revisions to the Debt Policy for LAWA which was approved by the Board of Airport Commissioners in September 2006. On a daily basis, he managed and maintained Letters of Credit and Surety Bonds for over 400 contracts of most tenants for up to $125 million of deposits. Bro. Monteiro is an honor’s graduate of Harvard College in 1979; the same year he was initiated into Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. via Beta Alpha Chapter. He obtained his Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard University in 1983.
Prior to entering government service, Bro. Monteiro had over 20 years of experience in the field of Asset Management, as a Research Analyst and Portfolio Manager at such prestigious firms as David L. Babson and Fidelity Investments in Boston, and Miller Anderson, and Sherrerd in Philadelphia. Bro. Monteiro was a Principal and Portfolio Manager in CIC Asset Management, in Los Angeles from 1991 to 2002. His expertise includes stock research, economic analysis, and the valuation of the markets and companies.
Since joining Phi Beta Sigma, Bro. Monteiro has remained committed to service. He has been involved with several not-for-profit affinity and community organizations holding various positions from President, Vice President, Treasurer, Fundraiser to a board member at large. His special passion is mentoring youth and adults in their educational, financial, and career aspirations. Bro. Monteiro is a lifetime member of The African American Alumni Association of Harvard Business School, the National Black MBA Association, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated, and is a member of the Cape Verdeans of Southern California. Bro. Monteiro is also a philanthropist who provides his treasure, talent, and time to support various worthy organizations and associations.
Additionally, Bro. Monteiro is an expert level Alpine Racer and current Gold Medalist for the National Brotherhood of Skiers, a member of Four Seasons West Ski Club, and an Advanced Speaker with Toastmasters International. Bro. Monteiro is conversant in five foreign languages.
