Bro. Ken Pires
Brother Ken Pires is a 26-year veteran police officer currently serving with the West Springfield Massachusetts Police Department and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office. Bro. Pires has been recognized for many law enforcement-related awards through the years, but he is most proud of his interactions with the youth of the communities he serves. Bro. Pires has mentored many Black & Brown youth in Massachusetts, using the Ying & Yang of his role as an officer to guide area minors to make good decisions. Regularly, he has an opportunity to interact with many of the people with whom he’s made a difference over the years and is remarkably proud of their accomplishments both academically and professionally. Bro. Pires shares the following vignette as an example of the power and importance of serving one’s community:
In 2018 I was floored when asked by a young lady, a doctor of education, to give her away at her wedding. Her father passed away years before. She told Bro. Pires that in her father’s place there was only one person who could fill that role, and that was Officer Pires. She told him that ‘if it were not for his guiding her during her high school years, annoying her when he saw her hanging out on the street corners… lecturing her about making right decisions, she would not be where she is today.’ That’s what this is all about… make it impactful!
Bro. Pires was initiated into Phi Beta Sigma in 1996 through Mu Alpha Chapter at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
