Bro. Luis Ortiz
Bro. Luis Ortiz is a spring 2019 initiate of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Beta Alpha Chapter. He is currently serving as the President of the Beta Alpha Chapter and also serves as the Treasurer of the NPHC undergraduate chapter in Boston. He is a Third-year Criminal Justice and Psychology double major at Northeastern University, pursuing a career in Law Enforcement.
In his time in College, he has been an active member on his campus, being a part of community service groups such as the Alliance of Civically Engaged Students (NU | ACES) and serving on the E-board on organizations outside of Sigma such as Fellowship and Manhood (FAM), Northeaster’s black men’s group. These extracurricular activities were the steppingstones that would lead him to the land of Sigma.
I joined Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. for many reasons. Growing up around African Americans and Caribbeans for a big portion of my life, college was a huge culture shock to me. I found it difficult to find and interact with people like me, culturally, socioeconomically, etc. It wasn’t until I spoke to a member of Sigma that I realized that there were other people who shared my background and my vision for what I want to do and get done in college and beyond. I was then introduced to other Sigmas and got immersed in the history of the organization. A lot of it spoke to me in ways that others couldn’t, and I saw the men that came and went and were currently there and wanted to align myself with these guys who ended up becoming my brothers.
